Accuracy is the theme as we enter 2020.

Accuracy with Timeouts:  We must ensure that a player has possession of the ball before granting a timeout.  Teams need to correctly request a timeout before passing or dribbling if they wish to take advantage of the option to advance in end of game situations.  Being overly generous in these situations is a disservice to the defense.

Accuracy with Travelling:  Predribble travels (i.e. shuffles, replants, split foot, running starts ) require eye discipline to identify and focus on the pivot foot.  Once a player legally starts her move, then you can referee the defense.  End of dribble travels have been a concern as this is the area where we have observed legal footwork being whistled as a violation. we must know when the end of dribble and control of the ball occurs.  Not every spin move is illegal, too many good athletic moves have been called a travel incorrectly.  Let's improve our accuracy in this area.

Thank you for your hard work and dedication to women's basketball.  Let's officiate in 2020 with 20/20. Be amazing, stay healthy and travel safely.  Here we go!

    NCAA National Coordinator of Officials
